Final Exam Part 1

1. Today, we wrote the written section of the final exam.
2. Bring your Heath textbook (skinny book) and Lab Manual (slightly thicker book) next class!

Organic Chem Quiz and Review for Final

1. We wrote a quiz on writing and naming organic compounds.
2. Study for the final exam! Remember to:
-bring pencil(s), scientific calculator
-bring textbooks/lab manuals/solutions guides to return to the school
-do not bring cell phones or other electronic devices
-you will have 75 min to complete 55 mc questions. For Chem11 regular, it covers ch1-4 and ch7 in your workbooks. For Chem11H, it covers Ch1-4 (and exo and endothermic reactions in ch5)
-Do the questions in the Practice Final Exam!! They are really, really helpful!

Salt vs Fresh Water, Run Off, and Glaciers

1. We did an activity where you had to figure out the density of different colored fluids by how they layered.
2. I showed a powerpoint of different features created by glaciers
3. I will be able to describe the effects of run-off.
4. In pairs, students identified the 6 factors affecting run-off, gave a positive and negative effect of it, and drew an example of it.
5. Finish all the questions on the Master Carvers Worksheet.

Organic Chemistry – Day 2/3

1. We built, drew, and named the 5 structural isomers of C6H14 using the molecular model kits. We built the 2 geometric isomers of 2-butene (the cis and trans versions).
2. We highlighted 3 of the functional groups: the halogens, the alcohols, and the carboxylic acids.
3. Finish reading section up to section 7 and try the review worksheet. The answers are here: Answers to Organic Chem Summary Exercises
4. Qu-est next class (large quiz/small test) on sections 1-7 only. It will be all written: writing and naming compounds.

Organic Chemistry – Day 2/3

Water Systems on Earth – Day 1

1. Hand in your Immune System Projects!
2. I will be able to explain the water cycle, what happens to waste water after we flush, and the effects of glaciers.
3. Read chapter 10, sections 1-4
4. Do: Water Cycle worksheet
5. Do: Questions #1-11 on Master Carvers Worksheet master carvers glaciers
Bonus: Look for examples of how water has shaped the earth. Bring 2 pictures, with you in it, and explain how the picture relates to what you have learned in ch10

Redox Test #2

1. Today, students wrote their final chapter test in Chem12 (Electrochemistry – sections 7-13)!!

If you were absent for the test, you need to make up the test Monday after school. You also need to bring a note or better yet, have your parent call/email me.

Unfortunately, due to the lockout, you will have 45 minutes to complete your test. Arrive as soon as you can after school to get started.

2. Download/print the provincial exam posted last class.
Friday: study/prep for the final exam
Tuesday: Final Exam part 1
Thursday: Final Exam part 2 (return textbooks and lab manuals)
Monday: check term 3/overall marks; return textbooks; bubble day?

major topics: Electrochemical cells, Electrolytic Cells, Redox Titrations, applications (ie. corrosion)
